Morris County Park Police

SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM
The Morris County Park Police in cooperation with the Morris County Prosecutor's Office and Sheriff's Office has created the Morris County Police Search and Rescue Team; the first of its kind in New Jersey. The team consists of specially trained police officers who respond to lost and missing persons calls in Morris and surrounding counties. Also included are fifteen qualified search managers who are able to coordinate the efforts for a large scale search. A typical initial response from the team would be comprised of a search manager team, Sheriff's K-9 Unit, command post and twenty-five trained ground searchers. Many more trained personnel are available when the search covers a large area or is of protracted duration. The team has been mobilized on numerous missions with considerable success in the short time since the team has been established. A specialized portion of the team is certified in high-angle rescue and can be utilized for rescues involving rappelling and hauling of victims on steep slopes and cliffs. Four officers are also trained as surface ice-rescuers.
