Morris County Park Police

Motorcycle Unit

The Morris County Park Police currently utilize two 2016 Harley Davidson FLHP Road King Police motorcycles. The Morris County Park Police Motor Unit is currently comprised of three Sergeants and one Patrolman. All officers assigned to the Motor Unit must pass a rigorous Motor Officer school. Motorcycle patrol enhances the departmentís ability to provide specialized patrols throughout Morris County. The Motor Unit is also detailed to parade, funeral, traffic and escort duties. In the Morris County Park System, where narrow paths and service roads sometimes make it difficult to deploy patrol cars, motorcycle patrol units are able to reach and assist park patrons in a more rapid and direct manor. The Morris County Park Police Motor Unit also assumes a community-policing role. Citizens typically tend to be more comfortable approaching an officer on a motorcycle without the perceived barrier of an enclosed vehicle. In most cases, the presence of the motorcycle is enough to foster a dialogue between the officer and a citizen.
